Plastic pollution effects on our Earth
This pollution can have harmful effects on the land and rivers by affecting wildlife and habitat, but also on human health.
On The Environment
This plastic debris represents a chemical pollution in several ways. They contain compounds that can be chemically transferred to organisms during ingestion. Some of these molecules are potentially toxic and can accumulate in the body.
Besides, plastic bags also affect the growth of crops, by hindering the process of photosynthesis in agricultural fields.
On Animals
The most direct effect of plastic pollution is the imprisonment of animals in nets or large debris.
It is a cause of significant mortality of marine mammals, turtles and birds.
On Humans
Because of the chemical additives used during plastic production, plastics have potentially harmful effects on human health.
Indeed, exposure to toxic chemicals coming out of plastic can cause cancers, birth defects, impaired immunity and other health problems.

| 1. Plastic Ban | There is a complete ban of plastic – no person including a shopkeeper, vendor, wholeseller or retailer, trader etc., shall use plastic carry bags for supply of goods & that no person shall manufacture, store, import, sell or transport plastic carry bags in state of rajasthan with effect from 1st august 2010. Penalty & Imprisonment | As you are aware that any type of Plastic bags, carry bags or garbage bags or non-woven bags all are ban in rajasthan vide notification no. f.8 (1) env/99-pt dated 21-07- 2010. Government had imposed ban on sale, and manufacture and transportation of polythene carry bags w.E.F august 1, 2010 any infringement of the notification would attract prosecution under section 15 of the environment protection act, which prescribes imprisonment for five years or a fine up to rs.1 lakh or both. Recurrence of the offence may lead to penalty of rs. 5,000 a day. Complaints registered under section 19 of the environment (protection) act, act 1986. | Not applicable on Compostable bags. |

Tens of thousands of whales, birds, seals and turtles are killed every year from plastic bag litter in the marine environment as they often mistake plastic bags for food such as jellyfish. Plastic bags, once ingested, cannot be digested or passed by an animal so it stays in the gut. Plastic in an animal’s gut can prevent food digestion and can lead to a very slow and painful death. As plastic bags can take up to 1,000 years to break down, once an animal dies and decays after ingesting plastic, the plastic is then freed back into the marine environment to carry on killing other wildlife. | Easily digestible for animals. |
